Howdy Money Buddies!!!
Yep, it’s that time again. Time for the Terrific 10! Been looking through stuff and have found some more great ones for you.
So, where do I find these gems? I go looking for them. I search through Twitter, my followers, folks I’m following, Rockstar Finance, the Rockstar Finance directory, and anyplace that comes to mind.
There’s a ton of good stuff out there and it’s my goal to point you towards it. My stuff is only so good, and Courtney only posts twice a month, so I figure that I’ll highlight other folks stuff and give you l0ts to go through.
Can’t hurt, huh? Anything to improve your financial standing. That’s how we roll, here at Money is not Taboo.
With no further delay, here’s this week’s Terrific 10!!!

3 Reasons I Talk about Money with my Students, and if you have Kids, Why You Should Too (Mr. Jamie at Mr. Jamie Griffin, Twitter Follower) – Looking through who’s following me on Twitter, I found Mr. Jamie who is a middle school teacher who talks to his students about money. I’m a former middle school teacher and I used to talk to my students about money.
My last year in education, while teaching at a local college, I actually got to teacher a unit on money. OH, my students got a BUNCH of good stuff.
College is a bit late to be teaching about money, but later is better than never. Sure wish that my folks had taught me more at an earlier age. Oh well. We’re doing okay.
Want to set your kids up early? Check out this article and get some good stuff.
Thanks, Mr. Jamie!!
Why I Like Overdrawing My Checking Account (Jim at Route to Retirement via Twitter) – When I saw this title I HAD to check out the piece. Having seen Jim as a shorter version of J. Money (Budgets are Sexy) at FinCon, I knew that this was going to be interesting and off the wall.
It is definitely both. I’ve never seen overdrafting as a positive financial move, but Jim has a great system here and it’s working for him. Would probably work for others, too.
Being in a different place in life, I can’t say that I’m going to adopt the strategy, but I’m definitely going to share it. It’s off the wall and helping Jim and Mr. R2R move ahead financially.
You gotta check this one out to see just what Jim is up to. It’s out there, for shore!
Why Your Goal for New Year (And Every Year) Should be Financial Independence (Kathryn at Making Your Money Matter, Twitter Follower) – Financial Independence, it’s the new name for retirement. Did you know that?
When one is financially independent, a job is no longer needed and one can quite working, which is what retirement is all about.
Let’s face it. We’re all going to age and it’s much more fun to not work than it is to work. Well, at least for me it is.
I totally agree with the the title and the content of this piece, and really think that it should be in everybody’s mindset. The earlier the better. Wish my folks had known this and taught it to me. Wish I had known it and taught it to my kids when the were young.
Well, here’s your chance. Read on and pass it on to your young ones.
Not-Your-Average Holiday Gift Guide 2017 (Liz at Kitchen Table Finance, Twitter Follower) – I’m not average so this title caught my attention. I like things that are unique, unusual, not normal, like me!
You are NOT going to find “Run of the Mill” gifts in this guide. Nope, that’s for sure. Liz has a bit of everything for everybody and their interests.
I even bought one of the items for myself, the Work at Home Bundle. I’ll do a post about it in January, so stay tuned!
Market Performance is Irrelevant (Handy Millennial, Twitter Follower) – Having been in the market since the early ’90’s this title definitely caught my eye.
I still haven’t quite wrapped my head about market performance being irrelevant, but sure like how the market’s been doing of late.
I’ll leave it up to you to decide if you agree or disagree with Handy Millennial. Definitely interesting reading here. It’s an interesting piece that will have you going “Hum.” Check it out!
Compound Interest: Reach Your Goals & Retire Early (Nolan Martin at Budget Chaos, Twitter Follower) – When I saw this title and read the first line, I had to jump into this piece. I LOVE compounding interest. Well, when it comes to investing. Debt? Not so much.
What really caught my eye was Nolan commenting that he learned about compounding interest at 18. At 18, my only thoughts of money was to make it to put into my car and to take the ladies out. Nope, not a braniac back then. Not really, now either.
“Why you need to start sooner than later.” Great subheading and SO true. You really need to read this one and share it with others.
Pass On Your Money Values…Before It’s Too Late (Matt of Method to Your Money, Twitter Follower) – “My Daughter is Engaged.” After the title, this first line really drew me in. Why, because Matt is too young to have a daughter of the marrying age. So, I had to read.
And you should too. OMG! The way Matt tells the story. Not only is he sharing great stuff he’s also doing it in a very entertaining manner. Yeah, this guy is good, on both accounts.
He’s got some great ideas on helping his little girl learn the value of money. These are things that I wish I had known when I was his age and my two were young things.
Oh well. Live and learn and pass on the good stuff to those that can use it.
Thanks, Matt! I’ll be looking forward to more of your good stuff!
10 Ways to Make Money From Home (Rachel Slifka at The Latte Budget, Blogger Buddy) – I’ve known Rachel for a while, following her in her blogging adventures and featuring her as a writer at Money is not Taboo. Why? Because she provides great stuff.
Having retired at 54, I’m all about working from home. I don’t want a job, but I do want to bring in more coin. It’s a passion. Just haven’t figured out how to bring the big bucks in, but I’m working on it.
Want to make some money from home? Check out Rachel’s piece. She’s got some good ideas here. Of her ideas, I’ve made money as a Freelance Writer, and doing Graphic Design work. I haven’t made money using any of her other suggestions, but it’s only because I haven’t tried.
Take a look. Some ideas might fit you. Good stuff, here for shore!
Earning Money While Spending Money (Matthew at All About the Dividends, Twitter Follower) – Matthew’s graphic first caught my eye; multiple credit cards, then the title jumped in. I’ve not been big on credit cards for the longest, but figured out how to use them to make some money on my purchases.
Did you know that you can set up your credit card to be paid off each month, and without using Debitize, which no longer supports my bank. Want to know more about Debitize? Check out this article. (Debitize Your Credit Card to Keep Villainous Interest Out of Your Account)
Any who, Matthew’s article has some great insight into using credit cards responsibly to make a bit more coin. Been working for me for a few years. I recommend that you look into what Matthew has to say and see if it might work for you.
OOOOOooooppppsss!! I hit the publish button not the preview button. Dang! Now I’ve spilled the beans on 9 of the Terrific 10. Well, there’s one more coming. Sit tight, hold on to your hats, and stay comfy. Here it comes. (6:21 PM, Dec. 12, 2017)
The First 6 Money Makers I’ve Tried (Corinna at Inspiring Life Design, Twitter Follower) – Money Makers caught my eye, but so did Corinna’s posts about FinCon 2017. Obviously she was there, but if we connected, I didn’t end up with one of her contact cards. Bummer. 🙁
Well, we’ve contacted here. We’ve found each other on Twitter and I found some good stuff at her site, Inspiring Life Design.
Now, I’m in the USA, but still feature folks that are not. Why not? Money is money, no matter where you live.
Corinna has some great info in this post, but you’ll have to work around the funny dollar signs. It’s really not tuff.
I like making money, and I like learning how others do so. I’ve got a cousin who’s into a ton of stuff, but it requires his time and body being were the work is. I’m not into that, so I look for stuff that I can do at home in my Jammies.
Some of these ideas are out of the ordinary, so be prepared!
