Real Estate, a New Adventure

My Sweet Heart, Christine, and I are both educators. Me? I’m retired. Christine? She can, and is looking at new adventures for when she bows out after many years as a teacher.

We’re both not ones to just sit, so along with my ventures, home upgrades and other projects, Christine and I are going to begin studies to become Reas Estate Agents.

It’s just another adventure for the two of us. We’ve had numerous since we got back together in 2018, 37 years after parting ways in college. That’s a WHOLE other story, maybe for another time.

Anyway, after getting back together, we’ve found that we work very well together on the numerous projects that we’ve tackled. With that, we’ve decided to embark on another venture.

With the close of Christine’s school year, we will begin our classes in Real Estate. In doing so, I will chronicle the “Fun.” I call it fun, in quotations, as we’ve both earned two degrees and know the work involved in learning some subjects.

We’re both excited, as we do enjoy learning and we do work well together. Neither of us are introverts, so working with people won’t intimidate us in this endevor.

So, at this time, we’re looking at course work and will have a decision made soon. Once school is out, we’ll enjoy a little vacation time, then it will be “back to school” for both us.

I just hope I don’t get in any trouble in “School” this time around. 🙂

Well, Christine and I have begun looking into what is involved in becoming a Real Estate Agent in Texas, as that’s where we live.

What have we found so far?

  • A Real Estate agent must be licensed by the Real Estate Commission to act as an agent on behalf of a Real Estate Broker and their clients. Agents must be sponsored by a licensed Broker to perform and act of real estate services.
  • An applicant has one from the date that the application is filed to meet all license requirements. Once all the requirements for licensing are met, including finding a sponsoring broker, Texas Real Estate Commission (T.R.E.C.) will send and active agent license to the sponsoring broker and to the new agent.
  • The following criteria must also be met:
    • The applicant must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
    • The applicant must be a US citizen or a lawfully admitted alien.
    • The applicant must meet TREC’s qualifications for honesty, trustworthiness, and integrity. It is recommended that the applicant consider requesting a Fitness Determination before applying for the license.

I meet the first two requirements, so I’m moving on with the Fitness Determination form now. The form, available at the link above, requires a $50.00 fee to be included when submitting the form. I just printed mine, so I’m going to get it filled out and sent in.

I had surgery on my left thumb this morning, so I’m done typing for a bit. More info to come, in the near future.
